A016 AVID Collectibles: Evaluating Diamonds

Avid – The School of Continuous Learning presents Avid Collectibles –A series on diamonds, emeralds, watches and more..

First in the Series of workshops is “Evaluating Diamonds”, conducted in association with International Gemological Institute (IGI) an institute (with a worldwide presence in India, Europe, US, Middle East & Far East) which grades and certifies the diamonds we buy.

“Evaluating Diamonds” is a course on grading and identification skills to further understand the world of Diamonds and become a Confident Buyer, a Factual Appraiser, a Reliable Retailer and a Wise Investor!

Do you know the journey of a diamond, ? from natural mines, through volcanic activity and kimberlite pipes, to De Beers Central Selling Organization, to sight holders, and private auctions, to cutting and polishing centers of Antwerp, Surat, Johannesburg and New York, to be sold by wholesalers and dealers and jewelry stores to eventually become your wedding ring ?

Have you looked closely at a diamond in a laboratory, just like a gemologist, to understand its Brilliance, Dispersion & Sparkle.

Do you know how to read a certificate, attached to a diamond, to analyze its table size, depth, pavilion and 10 other parameters which influence its beauty and value?. Do you know how to price a diamond based on Rapaport report.

The Five-day course aims to give an insight into the world of Gemology to buy diamonds more confidently and to acquire the expertise to speak the language of diamonds. The course gives an overview of the History of Diamonds, Understanding & Evaluating Diamonds through 4 C?s ? Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat, Understanding Grading and Certification of Diamonds, Benchmarking and Valuation. A mix of theory and practical training at the IGI Education & Scientific Lab to conclude with a test on grading of actual diamonds followed by a Certification ceremony.
