AVID presents a first-of-its-kind 4 day workshop on Jazz Appreciation followed by a concert on day5. |

Jazz originated at the beginning of the 20th century in African American communities in the Southern United States from a confluence of African and European music traditions. |
| |
| This course aims to give an overview of the history, evolution of Jazz music with an introduction to the ever green Jazz masters including the great Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. |

The course begins with presentations by Jon Ray from London, accompanied by musicians using various instruments. The Indian connection – ‘Influence of Jazz on Bollywood Music’ will be presented by Naresh Fernandes. The fitting finale is a live concert by Jon Ray and other musicians. |

- Modern Jazz Artists (90’s to date)

| Know your Faculty |
Jon Ray, London |
Jon Ray has been a professional musician since the age of 16, starting with jazz gigs on guitar, then including drums, bass and piano. Over the course of his career so far he has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Barbican and countries across Europe with many influential musicians. In 1999, Jon was awarded the ‘Rhythm Section of the Year’ award from Music for Youth for his work with HYJO with commendation for guitar improvisation. Jon is now a session and live musician as well as a record producer and educator to all ages. Jon has a passion for learning as well as educating others in many areas of music including theory, history and practical elements of the subject. |

| Guest Faculty: Naresh Fernandes |
Naresh Fernandes is a journalist from Mumbai, who is also the Editor-in-chief for Time Out magazine's editions in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. He is currently working on a book on how Jazz influenced Hindi film music in the middle of the last century. |
